Medicaid Question Special Needs Stroller?
February 162010
My son is 6 and severly autistic. He has quite a few medical problems but, one in particular is poor muscle tone. Back in late 04 early 05 medicaid got him a mighty lite kid kart chair. He has grown quite a bit and hips are just getting too wide for that chair. Back then he was going to therapy and had a Physical Therapist who helped me get it but now, he doesn;t anymore and I am unsure of how to go about this. I know that I definantly would like another stroller and I love the Convaid style but, it is just too expensive for me to buy out of pocket so, I have to go through medicaid. If I get a script form his doctor for the chair that I think will suit him, is there a company anyone know of that will handle the claim and contact medicaid for me? I know there are for adult wheelchairs but, am just unsure of the pediatric strollers. If not is there a place I can get a used one for a discounted price? I checked e-bay, nothing to fit him. Please someone of
Look for someone who does wheelchairs or seating. Those same folks who do adult wheelchairs can help you with pediatric strollers. Ask your pediatrician, or look for a hospital medical supply store. Even if they can't help you directly, they will know who locally does wheelchairs, and thus pediatric strollers. You can even call up that old physical therapist or one through the school -- I'm sure he or she could at least point you toward an equipment company. Also, don't hesitate to call up the physical therapist at school to see if someone might be outgrowing one they would donate. We've donated all of our outgrown equipment to others. Good luck!

If you have a local MRDD, check with them. Some states have MRDDs, some don’t (OH does).
