MIL/Baby Items/Crib/Ranting?
February 222010
Months ago my mother in law said - 'Don't buy anything, I want to buy everything for the baby'. Which at the time, I thought, AWESOME. We don't have to worry about buying our baby the big items he will need.
Now - I am due in 7 weeks. She hasn't bought any of these 'big' items.
I have bought a stroller - nothing special - I got it on clearance - $40 - something we can use next summer - when he won't need to be in the carrier.
I bought a swing - I love this swing - it turns into a toddler chair. I love the print as well - something you can only buy at Target (or so I have heard). I got this for $10 - regularly $100 - I used gift cards.
Also last night - I found a crib at Target on clearance for $80. I couldn't turn it down. I mean come one $80!!
Anyway - being she said she wanted to buy everything - am I stepping on toes here? Should I not be buying stuff?
She is on vaction out of the country until early Sept. I am due end of Sept.
Plus she only wants to buy stuff at Walmart - she works there - gets a discount. And to be honest.... the selection at our Walmart is pretty lame.
Again - Am I being rude buying things? I am in the nesting stage and I really want to be ready for my little guy.
Also - and other 'big' items I can tell her to get us?
I know we will need a
crib mattress
baby monitor
high chair (for down the road)
travel system stroller
Also - while I am here do you like the crib and swing I got?

Like I said I got the crib for $80.

I ended up getting the swing for $10.
Sorry - if you actually read this thanks. I know it was random babbling and random questions!
Just let her know what you need and that you were concerned about getting things set-up early, just-in-case, so you got some things while they were on sale.

well to be honest i don’t think at all your steping on your mother’s toes. If she was like i’ll buy you everything then okay but she hasn’t come through to saying what she did tell you. But your having the baby she isn’t. I love the crib set its just right and you really can’t go wrong for $80 considering everything out in this horrible economy is expensive. The swing is not a bad choice i like it. You could tell he rto by you a baby mointer and high chair, but think of your nessecities like first aid kit, diaper bag, wipes, car screen for the side of window, breast pump, baby bottles, clothes. You can never go wrong with diapers.

I hope all of this helps you.

if she gets offended, then oh well. she waited too long to get you anything. you’re due next month!!
if she does get offended, then just explain how you got great deals on the stuff you got and how you just couldnt turn it down.
btw.. i LOVE the crib!

Your not wrong for buying these things
It’s your child. You need to be prepared.
Who knows what could happen
Babies don’t always come on time
They come early they come late.

It’s your baby so anything that you want to buy is your choice. It is very nice that your MIL wants to help out but I would not be able to wait until only a month before the baby is born to start getting all the important stuff like crib, mattress, or any other stuff you think you need when the baby comes. What if you have the baby early and you don’t have this stuff? Im sure there are plenty of things she can help you buy when she gets back from vacation. Or, if she really wanted to pay for the crib tell her you found one you love and couldn’t resist buying and she can pay you what you payed for it. I like the crib and the swing you bought, very nice!

You got some great deals! And also some good answer above.
But there’s also the option that you buy things and leave them in the bags with the receipts. Then when she gets back in September, you tell her ‘I know you said you’d buy everything, but my doctor said there were a few things I should get before 36 weeks, so I got them and I can take them back.’ She won’t make you take them back, you can blame it on the doctor, and anyway, you should NOT be going out shopping for heavy things after 36 weeks, so that’s partly true
